Afternoon have half day tour to explore Hohhot city. First is visit to the Inner Mongolian museum. It is adjacent to Wulanqiate Grand Theater with a main building area of more than 50,000 square meters, a 4-story main structure and a 6-story local structure. Based on the abundant resources, such as ancient biology fossils, current biology, historical relics and ethnic cultural relics in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, the museum has a “grassland culture exhibition series” with the theme of “prairie culture” represented in both of the basic displays and the thematic displays.
Continue to visit the Five Tower Temple, a Tibetan Temple, to aspects its special structure, pagodas over pagoda, and the green and yellow colored glazes on the short eaves and tops of pagodas. Then visit to Xilituzhao Palace which is built in CE 1585 for the 3rd Dalai Lama, and the largest Lama temple (a Lama temple is a Tibetan-Buddhist temple) in Hohhot. Breakfast at hotel. Morning pick up at hotel. Take about 2hours transfer to Xilamuren Grassland, which is one of the must-see attractions in Inner Mongolia. In Mongolian language, Xilamuren means “yellow water”, and some people would like to call it “Zhao River”. Xilamuren Grassland is teemed with green grass and fresh flowers every summer and autumn. It is about 90kms away from Hohhot in the north. It is the closest grassland near Hohhot and is one of the most popular grassland for travelers. Upon arrival, Will receive a traditional welcoming ceremony by the local Mongolians colorfully dressed. You will taste the traditional Mongolian food and take part in local horseback riding. You are arranged to go to the stud farm to select the horse for your horseback riding, Visiting Aobao and a herdsmen’s family, which usually takes about 2-3 hours. The horseback is the highlight of the tour (pay on your own). Afterward, you will see the performances of Mongolian style wrestling, Horse racing and Equestrian. At night, people sit around bonfires singing and dancing to their hearts’ content. After one day’s travel, you will stay in a Mongolian yurt. You will visit to Wudangzhao Monastery, near a valley named Wudang Gou, lies the Wudangzhao Monastery which is a large Tibetan Buddhist monastery. It is the biggest and the best preserved lama monastery in Inner Mongolia’s Autonomous Region. ‘Bada Gele Monastery’ is its Tibetan name, meaning white lotus. ‘Wudangzhao’ in Mongolian means ‘willow’. Willows are prosperous in the valley, thus the name. The monastery was built in the Tibetan style. It is a group of white architectures built on the hills according to the principles of physiognomy. The white monastery stands out against the background of the green trees, making it appear very majestic. The main buildings in the monastery are composed of six halls, three living Buddha residences, and a funeral hall where the relics of several living Buddhas are preserved. Breakfast at hotel. This day will drive to the Resonant Sand Gorge. The Resonant Sand Gorge (Xiangshawan) is located in Kubuqi Desert which is 50 kilometers from Baotou of Inner Mongolia. The sand gorge is famous for its resonating sand dunes which can range from 30ft to 40ft in height. The distinctive feature of the Resonant Sand Gorge is its 45 degree gradient which means the sand dunes can reach heights of 90 meters. Tourists flocking to catch a glimpse of the echoing sand plains. There is also a range of activities such as camel rides, sand-sliding, cable way and other activities are available at the 5 different hotel resorts located in the desert. After arriving at the Resonant Sand Gorge, take the bus to the chairlift station. Then take chairlift to the top of the sand hill. First take 20-30 minutes camel ride on the desert. Breakfast at hotel. Morning pick up and drive to the Genghis Khan’s Mausoleum. The present Genghis Khan’s Mausoleum was built in 1954 in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia, about 185 km (around 115 miles) from Baotou City. Genghis Khan is a Mongolian hero. He reunified the chaotic Inner Mongolia prairie and led his people to be a great civilization and made great contributions to the founding of the powerful Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) and the unification of China which enhanced greatly the interactions of the peoples of China. Due to this great feat, he was named ‘Genghis Khan’ by Mongolian tribes, meaning ‘powerful king’ in Mongolian. Today, Genghis Khan is still worshipped and remembered by his people. However, most of people believe that this mausoleum is not where he was really buried but is rather a gathering place for Mongolians to offer sacrifice. Whether this is true or not, the mausoleum remains a sacred place with great significance for Mongolian people.
