Arrives: 08:00AM  / Departs: 18:00PM

Kagoshima, Kyushu, Japan Cruise Port

The mystical and captivating backdrop in the cruise port of Kagoshima, Kyushu, Japan known as Sakurajima is one stratovolcano revered in a god-like manner. This active volcano has created an atmosphere very unique to the port city of Kagoshima, contributing to its vast appeal to world travelers and savvy tourists. As a busy commercial and political port city during the medieval times, the cruise port of Kagoshima under the authority of Satsuma Domain was an extremely wealthy territory in Japan and played an important role in the country’s industrial revolution. With mild climate, palm tree-lined streets, impressive bay location and Sakurajima’s similarity to Mount Vesuvius in Naples, it’s no wonder this remarkable port city is often referred to as the “Naples of the Eastern World.”

With plenty to explore while cruising to Kagoshima, Kyushu, Japan, these places of attraction are only a highlight of the amazing sights to encounter:

  • Gear up for a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the surreal and picture-perfect iconic site of Sakurajima. With only about 1500 active volcanoes worldwide, the opportunity to seize the moment with one of the world’s greatest active volcanoes dropping large amounts of volcanic ash on its surroundings is more than astounding. Sakurajima has its highest peak at 3,665ft above sea level and floats only 2.5 miles from Kagoshima. It’s a captivating sight!

  • In 1868, practical imperial rule was restored to Japan from the hands of Tokugawa Shongunate. The chain of events that led to the reinstitution of power is well documented in the Museum of the Meiji Restoration. This highly informative museum is a collection of knowledge and artifacts providing insight into the sword techniques, samurai loyalty and social system of education prevalent in the period of Japanese modernization.

  • The stunning scenery in the picturesque Senganen Garden includes ponds, streams, shrines, a bamboo grove and the perfect use of Sakurajima as an embellished backdrop. A quite stroll with loved ones through the well-kept floral arrangements can take you down the history of the wealthy Shimazu Clan who constructed the garden in 1658.
